Thank to responders. I slipped into local Halfords and bought some GT85. Only £4. Gave a thirty second spray to both sides and they worked ok for about six tries. Hopefully that's it. I get this any time it is a bit cold or frosty. This system has puzzled me for three years since I had the car from new. On two occasions I have seen BRAKE! flash up for no apparent reason. Apart from that I have no evidence that the system works.
