I've never had a problem.
Have you checked the phones Bluetooth settings? How about trying to connect a different phone to see if it's the phone or the cars settings etc is causing the problem.

Not easily seen if the mirrors are folded. You'll then have to start the car to unfold them

Not really had any wear over 85k miles & white (half stone) leather seats.

As JT says, check your main battery condition. I had similar issues & the stop/start wouldn't work - the battery icon wouldn't turn blue indicating it would no longer take full charge even with a CTek battery charger/reconditioner.
A new battery solved all the issues.

Fitted today .... for £20. A bit fiddly but took only 1/2 hour.
