...so to be clear, there's a record everytime we exceed the speed limit - and that can be made available to the 'relevant authorities'?! :o
So it is not only HGV drivers who have a spy in the cab!
Presumably the capacity of the data recorder is limited, so earlier data will be deleted as more is added.

Yes they can and it’s the first thing they look for at the scene of an accident.

Not so sure it records speed in the data log. My other car records 10 highest rpm readings, with along with mileage, coolant temp and oil temp for each reading, total hours that the engine has been running for, % of this time spent in several rpm ranges (0-1000, 1000-2000 etc) and % of this time spent in particular throttle positions ( 10%, 20% open etc). This is really all the data that they need to see how you treat your pride and joy, or not as the case may be. It is not too much of a stretch to include speed, but that's not as important as engine speed and temps when it comes to warranty claims.

Hi , new here. I have a CX3 sport 2.0L 120 bhp. Do a lot of town driving. So far this month i have pumped in £60 at £1.13 per litre and got 420 miles out that.
If i chip it will this improve as i think its shocking compared to other cars i have driven with similar engines ?

36mpg. Do you drive proactively or reactively?

I can't think of many 2 litre petrol engines that will better 36mpg around town.

WIsh I only paid £1.13 for my petrol

I mostly use mine for work which is 10 miles each way on A and B roads. Obviously there is a lot of traffic around and I couldn't better 36mpg. As the auto doesn't have an economy mode I decided to change up using the paddles and now I get 39mpg. On a long run without rush hour traffic or cyclist this can improve to 45mpg.
I have considered chipping it, but the cost of insurance would probably exceed the savings I would make in fuel cost. The warranty is also a little concerning.

Indeed, there is a common misconception that chipping or remapping engines is for speed- particularly top speed. I've read that most owners report a more comfortable driving experience as a result of the added 'low down' torque which is what you need when you pull out onto busy roads. And as the engine produces more torque, there is a reduced need to floor the throttle hence the better fuel consumption. I had my landrover discovery remapped and it transformed the car. It was better in every way.
