I see BBR have a kit but it looks like it only adds 11bhp to the 120 model

I'm not sure the bum dyno will notice that.

I think you'll find it will up the CX-3 (or Mazda 3) basic 120bhp 2.0 petrol engine by 33bhp. The 11bhp upgrade is to the 165bhp 2.0 petrol fitted to the Mazda 3.

I would love to chip mine, but it will invalidate the warranty. Also I would need to change insurance as Direct Line won't insure it if I increase it more than an additional 20HP.

That looks like a bargain, only 26 months before the warranty runs out :)

there is also an option elsewhere to get it up to 180bhp. i'd say that's pushing it

Pointless me getting it chipped seeing as it'll be traded in in a year and a half

I've recently had my auto 120bhp chipped adding 11bhp & 20Nm of torque (approx 10%). It's now much more tractable at lower revs and the increase seems to suit the auto box better than the standard mapping. Mpg has not changed much - might have slightly improved it even.

When and where can this extra power be used on the UK's overcrowded and speed limited roads?
I find 120bhp more than adequate for a car of the CX-3's size and weight.

If you actually read my post I mention tractability and a better auto box response (probably due to the torque increase) and nothing about increased speed which you imply. That's why I didn't opt for the 150- 180bhp quite often advertised.
The 47mpg that I'm getting suggests that I'm probably driving slower and smoother than yourself, partly due to having that extra torque.
