Security key light

Just to close the thread, I've now experimented with having my key at the front of the console, under the radio, and the beeping and flashing key light happen when the passenger door is closed. With the key away from the console, it doesn't happen. At least I know what not to do. Thanks for all replies.

Glad you got sorted as these sort of problems can be annoying.

Just had this happen to me for the first time (that I am aware of) after almost 8 years of ownership. Never noticed it before but the red key warning light continued to flash until I turned off the engine when I reached my destination. Not sure of the purpose really? Keys are always placed on the rubber mat in front of the gear stick.
