I have paired my Galaxy S9 and my wife's S9, both phones work fine independently hands-free and reading messages but if my wife's phone is in the car at the same time my wife's takes over and mine loses its Bluetooth connection. Surely the system can handle two phones at the same time, obviously only one will be able to be hands-free at once, any ideas?

There can only be one Bluetooth connection at the time, from the paired list, - as always with Bluetooth connections.

Thanks for that, surprised to be honest, my Bluetooth bike unit will handle my phone, sat nav and another bike with a second headset all Bluetooth
