Mazda says that's normal. most car manufactures put a plastic blank foot plate in automatics to save wear in that area

I think fourbanks is saying he was expecting a footrest on the carpet to have been a factory fit, however it's not. It's a case of buying and fitting the official Mazda accessory, a third party one, or getting some rubber matting and fabricating your own.

(I haven't got a foot rest and my carpet is still OK).

indeed it's just something of note which I've always had' but now seems to be a thing of the past with a few car manufacturers

anchorman made his own. The official Mazda accessory is alloy - for example - http://mazda-cx3.sgpetch.co.uk/pages/ac ... t/id=17892 or plenty of other options on ebay and amazon.

I went with the Weathertech front mats which cover that area and more. Bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut solution and pricey but I do like them.

Good luck with it
