So in the bad weather you override the auto change the setting to on. By not using the auto function you still have to be aware to put your lights on in such a situation. So not really any difference.
But by not using the auto function you're in danger of forgetting to turn the lights on at dawn or dusk which I have seen so many times. As much if not more dangerous than in rainy conditions.
Additional flashing lights is a warning signal - see the highway code. You should always be aware someone might pull out of a side road irrespective of your lights or other road users.
I always have my auto lights on set to the most sensitive setting.
How on earth did you manage to drive in the days before we had auto lights? Maybe if you are unable to judge when your lights should be on or off you should just keep them on all the time. Then everybody would be happy.
You seem to have misread my post. Whether you use the auto headlights ( and it doesn't work quite as hsdedong has pointed out) or not, you still have to manually change the light setting.
You are implying that because you have had one instance of the auto system flashing someone it is therefore unsafe for everyone. I would say it was the driver pulling out that was unsafe, not the system. If you have the blind spot monitoring system and someone else side swiped you, would you blame the system or the other driver?
By your standards you will blame the systems and tools rather than any operator error?
It has only happened to me once, but I have twice been following cars where it has happened to them. The drivers pulling out are to blame, they should take no notice of indication from another car, but that is no satisfaction if you end up in hospital, or worse still killing somebody.
If it ever happens to you I'm sure you will rethink the use of auto lights. Hopefully you wont get hurt.

So what Mazda wrote in their CX-3 Owners Manual is not true and you also doubt my personal experience? ;-)

No, I'm saying it doesn't work sometimes as you would expect it to, like the MZD which occasional has a glitch. Mine doesn't seem to be dependent on the windscreen wipers and do have to change it manually.

post amended as I had my lefts and rights mixed up...

General query to all:

- You are waiting at a T-junction to join the road.
- A car is approaching from the right
- The left indicator on the approaching car starts to flash

What do you do?

From the CX-3 Owners manual :
If the headlight switch and the windshield wiper switch are in AUTO, and the wipers are operated at low or high speed by the auto wiper control for several seconds, bad weather conditions are determined and the headlights may be turned on.

I can confirm the above function from my own experience.

AndyRen wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2019 7:50 am ? The car approaching must be turning into a driveway on his/her side of the road, parking in the road or they've operated their indicator in error???.... And it depends on which way I am turning as to what I do.

I can understand Andy's confusion. I can only assume the car is approaching from the right and indicating to turn left.
Being an ex motor cyclist, and wanting to live to an old age, I wait until the car starts to turn into the road.
Lets face it, how many times do you see car drivers completely unaware that their indicators are on.

Ditto - I remember my instructor, some 25 years ago, telling me the only thing a flashing indicator tells you is that bulb is working. That knowledge saved me several times.

And everyone forgets that flashing your headlights informs other road users that you are taking priority - not, as the vast majority think and use to say "after you". I've had several "head to heads" as a results...not accidents, just other vehicles proceeding when they shouldn't..
