just goes to show that a car manufacturer will give you junk if they can get away with it. only a fool would put a plastic exhaust manifold on a car. of course it would catch fire.

I think you may be referring to possible intake manifold fire. See https://car-recalls.eu/volvo-to-recall- ... fold-fire/

“In certain driving conditions, the EGR cooling circuit may not be robust enough. As a result, an unexpected amount of soot may be generated, leading to increased risk of a fire in the engine compartment.”

In a totally unrelated article, but on the subject of plastics: "...Plastic air intake manifolds are used in the majority of vehicles produced worldwide today because of the optimized air flow, design freedom and general reductions in weight and cost they offer over their metal counterparts," said Dennis Nicholls, project manager Mahle UK..." personally, plastics should play no part in being anywhere near or the touching of the engine. all plastics are vulnerable in certain conditions. even
Polycarbonate will break down if exposed to Ultraviolet lamp for example as it goes soft like a toothpaste tube and that's with being exposed to no heat

anyhow what do I know? from my experiences of dealing with chief executives is that they haven't a clue about nothing only making money and after 40 years that's still my opinion of the UK today. and that goes for the mp's and lords as my daughters been working alongside them the past 5 years and shes says the same haven't a clue hence the clarity on Brexit. at least she saw the light and moved on to a much better type of life down under. that's education for you. at the end of the day, a good masters win every time

End of that article quote>>>>>>
The material also costs less per kilogram, helping contribute to a lower overall production costs. Lower processing temperatures and the lack of pre-drying further reduce overall energy consumption and eliminate some manufacturing steps.
<<<<<<<

They forgot the last sentence - "and more importantly putting more money in our pockets, also enabling us to raise prices as the poor mugs are bound to think the new process is more expensive"!
