I thought that the system was purely mechanical with electrical motor assistance only. No pump, fluid, reservoir etc. That sounds an odd explanation.

I think you're correct. It was badly worded. I should have said motor rather than pump.

Tongue in cheek response - but as cars are slowly being modded for driverless may be this will be part of the AI that will tell the robot that the steering is pointing dead ahead..

I seem to be getting the same with my steering. Only really notice it at motorway speeds, other than that steering’s fine. Does anyone know if Mazda is aware, or is just a characteristic of this car? 2019 CX30 Sport Nav+ Auto 2.0 petrol.

I think it is the G-Vectoring trying to stop jerky movements of the steering.

If it is a characteristic then it's one I didn't notice previously.........So the CX30 does it as well?

Well..........Mine has started to do it even when stationary now. But not always which is odd. On Wednesday it did it when I was stopped at the traffic lights which were about half a mile from my local Mazda garage so I went straight to them to have it checked out as the fault was still present ( I left the engine running). They checked it against an identical car they had in stock and confirmed the "notchiness" was present in my car but not the sister car. This was checked by rocking the steering wheel very slightly at the straight ahead position using just your finger tips.. They raised a PQI? with Mazda to see is there was a solution. About half an hour later they rang me at home for me to bring the car in to get the serial number from the power steering drive motor. Today they rang to say they have ordered a new "steering shaft" from Mazda to replace mine (£2,500) and 1.5 hours to fit it, all covered by warranty. Brilliant service in my opinion, lets hope it solves the issue when it gets fitted. I will report back........

Thanks switchback for the info on this issue. I raised the issue to start this thread but wasn't sure it was an actual fault.......... until now! Keep us posted on progress.

The steering shaft has arrived and the car is booked-in for next Tuesday to be fitted.
