Can anyone tell me what the square symbol directly above the '2' of '27mph' signifies please?

It shows you that you've cancelled/deactivated (but not turned off) speed limiter or cruise control.
So the speed is still set but deactivated at the moment, if you push RES it should disappear.

The speed limiter light being orange instead of green tells you the same thing.

So am I.
I have owned my CX-3 since 2016 and have never even tried either the cruise control or the speed limiter. One of the most annoying habits on the motorway is drivers who take minutes to perform an overtaking manoeuvre because they are too lazy to disengage cruise control.

I use the adaptive cruise control alle the time, nice and relaxing when driving an automatic.
I still accelerate my self and/or cancel the cruise control if needed.

Not sure if you do really mean disengage the cruise control ? You just accelerate if you choose as normal...foot of the gas and it drops back to the set speed.
