I wondered if anyone else with an auto box has experienced a intermittent reluctance with the gear leaver to come out of park, obviously the brake is pressed and gear lever button also pressed in fully. It does come out but needs a slight tug.
It is booked in to be looked at, but wondered if anyone has also experienced similar,

Do you park on a slope?
I did have something that sounds similar. It was cause by the way I put the hand brake on in relation to putting the vehicle in park, and the fact I park on my sloping drive.
I was putting the car into park and then applying the handbrake. This seemed to put pressure on / load the auto gearbox and made it difficult to the move out of park when restarting.
I now put the vehicle in neutral, apply the handbrake, release the footbrake and only then put into park. It has become second nature now and has resolved the problem.
A relative had similar issues with their Mercedes auto until I mentioned what I do.

My car is garaged, and I put the gearbox into Park before GENTLY applying the handbrake. Any stiffness when moving the gear lever out of Park is less noticeable if you wait until the idling speed has dropped to normal on a cold start. It only takes a matter of seconds.

Thank you all for your help... Housespider yes I do also park on a slope and stopping using the sequence you suggested has resolved the issue.
Thanks again good result.
I still have to take the car in to Magna though as the rear view camera decided to stop working for a while, but now works OK again, although I suspect that will remain a mystery unless it fails pemantly.

Great, glad to be of help. The brake then holds the car rather than the gearbox.

I would be somewhat concerned with parking a car on a slope relying solely on the handbrake, certainly not the best advice.

It's not being held solely on the handbrake, it's sound advice to take the strain off the gearbox parking pawl.

But surely once the box is put in park after the handbrake applied, if the handbrake fails the auto box will hold the car?

Brum I understand your concern, I agree not a good plan to park on a slope with just the handbrake applied. But as stated the handbrake is applied whilst the car is in neutral, then moved to park.
