Rear cable access

This may seem a daft question; but always thought better to confirm before I break stuff!
My model doesn’t have the reversing camera (it does have fore and aft CCTV fitted), and I have bought a number plate surround with camera mounted in it which obviously requires an access point behind the plate.
Behind the rear number plate there is a white plug. From the underside it appears to be simply a dummy plug (for maybe fitting an accessory on a posher model) and seems to serve no purpose; but before rip it out, can someone please confirm this???

I presume you're referring to number 6 in BWJ's exploded diagram of parts. I think that's necessary to locate the bumper plastic to the body. You may be better off drilling a small hole for your wiring and using a rubber grommet.

Ha: thank you, No6.
It seems to serve no purpose, and I’m sure it doesn’t. But as said, why is it there, and I’ve done the “oh what a pity, you shouldn’t have done that” on other cars in the past (BTW what is it?) :?

Hello; many thanks, jtonline and Julian
Yes, I see what it does now, and will do as Julian suggests and simply drill a hole through the bumper (It just seemed a pity to do that when there was one already there, seemingly serving no purpose)
Onwards and upwards ;)
