Tail lights on with DRL's

Another thought.... If you connect a +'ve to 85 and -'ve ground to 86, current will flow through the diode therefore short circuiting the relay coil (and possibly blow a fuse) the diode (or thermistor whatever) should be opposing the current flow only allowing the back emf from the coil to dissipate on open circuit. It's been a while since I did any electrical theory but I think I've got it right? :lol:

I don't need the tail lights to go out when in park or handbrake on, it's pretty daft that the DRL's do that :)

I think you might be right about swapping +12v & GND on the coil. Strange thing is the relay is working OK. I'll check that I've wired them like I've written.

The diagram I originally posted was from the internet and was not for the relay I used. I have now edited my post to show a revised diagram taken from the top of the relays I used. It goes to show that not all relays are the same.

Ahh! That's better.

Would this be classed as a 'modification' as far as insurance is concerned?

Well, I think any modification to standard manufacturer spec. is notifiable. I checked with my insurer (Direct Line) before starting and they couldn't find anything on their list of mods. so added a description in my policy notes. I didn't have to get it done by a professional, so long as it doesn't make the car unroadworthy. Not all insurers are the same though, so anyone considering doing mods. should always do their own checks before commencing.

Many people wouldn't even contemplate contacting their Ins Co for something like this... Even a change in alloys is considered a modification (winter tyres and wheels anyone?)
