Don't use my sat nav much on local journeys for obvious reasons-however have done quite a few longer journeys this month and it has been really useful--EXCEPT for one annoying issue.

On settings -I am on FAST-but the sat sometimes can suddenly divert me off an A road. I just don't understand the logic for this unless it is clever enough to identify a traffic jam or most immediate road closure ahead. Yesterday for instance i was travelling from Malmesbury to Burford on the A429 and was guided off the A429 at Cirencester and diverted right though the town centre on a busy saturday morning!....similar thing happened happened driving south towards Hastings in East Sussex a fortnight earlier.....a scenic route into Tonbridge on a friday afternoon was most unwelcome!

Would be grateful for an explanation/ideas plse and//or guidance on helping me to understand. Am most happy to be told I am not using the facility correctly!

Tty turning off the 'Use Historical Traffic Data' feature in sat nav settings as that will route you around its understanding of historic traffic jams on a given day of the week in a given hour.

The Sat Nav can also use the free TMC radio data to route you around road blocks and traffic jams depending on your Traffic settings.

See your Navigation System Owner's Manual for more info.

P.S. When I used the in-car sat nav, before I switched to using Apple CarPlay, I found the 'Easy' route option to be the best.

Unless Mazda changed things in recent year(s) - e.g. they paid some kind of subscription - the free to user TMC radio data traffic detour feature certainly wasn't working for their UK cars sold in 2016, unlike other places in Europe :(

TMC became enabled on mine when I updated the OS from 56.00.513B to 59.00.545A in June 2018.
