Paint failure on Bonnet only

Hi

I have a Mazda CX3 built in Jan 2016 in Deep Crystal Blue Mica

We noticed back in April 2020 that the paint on the bonnet was starting to discolour, some dark marks (approx. 4) across the bonnet and the paint was dull to the rest of the car. The car was given a paint protection by the dealer.

It was reported at to the Mazda Dealer who polish the bonnet but didn't have and luck fixing it. Their suggestion was to report it to the Paint Protection company, MotorOne, which we did immediately. After months of no response and continuous phone calls over some 6 months we finally received notification that the Clear Coat had failed and we should go back to the dealer. By this time the paint of the entire bonnet faded and started to chip.

We organised through the dealer to have Mazda look at the bonnet under Warranty. after 6 weeks we finally heard back (only because we rang the dealer) that Mazda refused the warranty claim and suggested that we had done something to the paint to cause the problem.

I immediately tried to contact Mazda some 10 days ago and still waiting even after calling then last Friday.

Nothing is wrong with the rest of the paint work on the car its as good as new and well looked after.

Has anyone else had this issue, that Car is almost 5 years old.

Photos of clearcoat failure on various cars here https://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showt ... to-Archive
Question for MotorOne would be, why has the clearcoat failed when their protection product is designed to stop it?
Looks like you'd need to get the bonnet completely resprayed.

Looks like the bonnet has been resprayed before, badly.

Thank Julian. for the link. Yes some of those photos are exactly what started back in April 2020.

MotoOne a blaming Mazda for the Clear coat failure and Mazda are blaming us for he Clear Coat failure. We haven't done anything to it, it has not been resprayed, the rest of the car is in perfect condition. It's well maintained and looked after.

Considering it started when the car was 4 years old make you wonder what happened, it was the last model built in Japan as we had to wait for it to arrive. Mazda Australia are very hard to get a hold of, still waiting for returned Phones calls.

I doubt it's a Mazda manufacturing defect as all the metal parts would be robot sprayed at the same time; although I'm no expert.

I understand that clearcoat can degrade with heat, and it's hot in Australia, plus you've got the added heat from the engine.

The dealer who tried resolving the issue last year may have exacerbated the issue.

Have you taken the car to a local bodyshop and asked for their opinion?

If everyone is blaming everyone else, I don't know where you go from here. You may have to be prepared to pay for a respray out of your own pocket.

Hi.... That looks like a Sun baked bonnet ..... there is very little room for the heat to dissapate under the bonnet....especially with it having the liner under the bonnet.
Looks like the bonnet is getting a respray unfortunately...
