I Gang,
I wont lie I dont frequent message boards but my mazda cx-3 has stated beeping on start up 1 long, 4 short.
No lights on dash indicating anything wrong.

Any clues greatly appreciated?

It may be linked...i.e.a long beep to say there is a fault and then 4 beeps to let you know it's a parking sensor.

This is only an idea...have you had any minor contact with anything or had the bumper off the car.

I think MJC is correct. I had a guy roll into the back of me. My wife didn't even notice it but it damaged the sensor. From what I recall it gave one long beep and 4 short ones. I was lucky, because there was no damage to the car the sensor was replaced under warranty.

Mine has always started out (when putting in reverse) with a long beep to indicate the rear parking sensors are active (but never the 4 short beeps), so the long beep ad 4 short beeps aren't necessarily linked.

Thank you everyone. I will get the car to the dealer for warranty replacement its only got 29k kms on it in 3 years. I just needed to know it was safe to drive for my wife in the meantime... (I ride motorcycles year round)
