Either that or maybe a faulty battery.

I just know, that a low-voltage battery might wreak havoc on some systems.
And it's fairly easy to have the battery tested :-)

My local garage mechanic has told me that it was the rear ABS sensor, and I have been quoted a price from my Mazda dealer of £54.09 inc VAT and delivery for the part. Is this a decent price?

TIA

Depends on the part number they've quoted to supply. For example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Mazd ... 3234017309
