Set this to preferred level many months ago and haven't fiddled with it since-but suddenly the volume dropped significantly. I've re-adjusted up according to instructions but was wondering why the volume dipped in the first place? Did I do something silly?

You probably tried turning the radio volume down just after a navigation instruction. It takes a couple of seconds after a navigation instruction for the volume control knob to switch back to controlling the radio, so if you don't wait you end up inadvertently turning down the sat nav volume.

Thankyou jtonline-sorry for the delay in replying. Yes indeed that is exactly what I was doing. If going somewhere unfamiliar-I would key in the postcode data etc then press "Navigate to" and at exactly at the same time dip the radio volume without any pause so that I could instantly hear the guidance, which of course was then on heavy dim as well!
You learn something new every day!
Thanks
