Hi all,

Anyone else had an issue where one or both of the rear seat belts don't retract properly or not at all?

I had this issue yesterday, but as my car is a 65 plate and I bought it through a private dealer, Mazda wants to charge me £275 + Service fee to get it fixed. Am I the only one who thinks this is insane that a vital piece of safety equipment can fail in less the 8 years when the back seat have basically been used about 10 times xD

Not had that issue, and I'm not aware of any Technical Service Bulletins or safety recalls on the subject.
Ask a dealer to raise a goodwill request with Mazda UK, or call them yourself. They may be willing to authorise a fix for free, even on a 2015/16 model.

A number of Australian owner's have reported the same problem on their CX-3's and have had it fixed outside of warranty at no cost (or possibly just a diagnostic fee). Check out this link on the another CX-3 forum :-

I had the issue with a 2015 CX-3. offside only. Mazda replaced the whole seatbelt free of charge last year - car at 5 years old. Just ask your dealer to check with Mazda UK. Took about 2 weeks to arrange but that might have been Covid related..

Just to update on this. I had the seat belt replaced. It was covered under the Mazda's Goodwill scheme. I contacted Mazda UK directly. They confirmed with myself directly that they will accept it on the goodwill scheme and to take it to my local dealer. Which I did, the dealer asked to see the email etc and confirmed it themselves a few days later. Took about 2 weeks and it was then replaced.

Now I'm debating if I try and get my steering wheel replaced  I've seen there's a TSB for the leather wearing on the steering wheel. It's not even peeling, more like the dye is disappearing from the leather >_<

I damaged a patch of leather on my steering wheel (I think it was caused by anti bac hand gel) and I put some Furniture Clinic, Black Leather Repair Paint & Dye on the damaged area and it's back to like new.

I have the same issue now with my nearside rear seatbelt.
Not retracting, and locking In the extended position.
I have also contacted Mazda UK directly today, to request a goodwill repair.
Will await their response.

Well here's a thing. I had the same problem in 2020 with my 2015 Mazda AWD and Mazda replaced the whole seat-belt free system of charge.
I have just heard today that other side rear has failed its MOT. Not looking good is it?

Edit: corrected misinformation.

To follow up my above post:- Mazda in the form of Hendy Mazda said there was no rear-nearside seatbelt in the country and had no idea when one would be available. My car had an MOT 'Repair Immediately' notice and was thus undriveable.
After three weeks I managed to get a used belt (looks new though) from HillsMotors on eBay. Local non-Mazda garage fitted it this morning and MOT passed!! I'm still waiting to hear whether Mazda UK would agree to replace the belt free of charge..

So if this experience is generalized god help any one that needs an unusual part from Mazda in the future.
