My vehicle is due a recall regarding a fault in the fuel pump. Some questions please.

1)Does anyone know what's wrong with it and what are others experiences?
2) My nearest Mazda dealer will willingly handle this ( F.O.C) when they receive stock of the new "part" . Not expected till March at the earliest. Is this lack of stock issue nationwide?
3) Will my vehicle become immobile if I suffer fuel pump issues before "March" ?

All comments welcome

UK Safety Recall R/2021/435 dated 04-01-2022
The impeller in the low-pressure fuel pump MAY become deformed causing fuel pump failure.
The low-pressure fuel pump is replaced with an improved part on affected vehicles.
Vehicles affected by the recall in the UK: 26974 (529,964 vehicles worldwide).
Apparently, it may result in engine no start and/or vehicle stall while driving at low speed and, in rare instances, a vehicle stall could occur while driving at higher speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. That's why it's a safety recall. Additionally, drivers may notice this defect by a check engine light, and/or rough engine operation.

Micro-cracks can cause fuel to enter the fuel pump impeller and cause it to swell and deform. The deformed impeller could subsequently come into contact with surrounding parts and become blocked. This would lead to engine shutdown due to interruption of fuel supply. This problem has already occurred with other Japanese manufacturers. More or less extensive recalls in various markets have already been announced by Honda, Subaru, Suzuki, and Toyota.

Just this minute received the recall notice. I rang my local Mazda dealer for more information and he confirmed that it was the fuel pump and they wouldn't be getting any stocks of the new part until March!!
Hope it lasts until then!!!
So, what happens if my car packs up in the next week or so, and they dont have the part to fix it?
Looks like I'll have to remember how to use 'Shanks's Pony'!!!

When the CX-3 had many air con failures in the early days, and there was a shortage of replacement parts, Mazda provided a lot of affected owners with a hire car (requested via dealer) until repairs could be carried out. The same may be true for this fuel pump issue if the pump fails prior to getting it inspected/replaced.

How were you notified of this recall ?

Would the part and fitting be covered by Mazda even if the vehicle is outside of warranty period ?

Thank you.

You can check if your vehicle needs a recall here.

https://www.mazda.co.uk/owners/recalls/

Just input the VIN number.

My 67 reg CX3 auto is not due a recall apparently. Are only manual transmission models affected?
