Strange one this.

When the air on has been blowing cold for a few minutes I get a tapping noise from under the dash. It only happens over bumps and gradually disappears if I turn off the aircon.

The noise I can only describe as two pieces of metal tapping together. The longer the aircon is on the louder the tapping.

I recently had the condenser replaced if that helps.

Could perhaps be a faulty actuator on an airflow flap in the HVAC?

Or perhaps something catching on the blower fan. If you remove the glovebox and the cabin air filter you may be able to tell.
Or as something under the dashoard gets cold it's contracting and rattling until it warms up again and expands; if so, that's going to be difficult to find I think.
The aircon condenser is behind the radiator under the bonnet so I think the fact that you've had that replaced is coincidental. There is an aircon evaporator under the dashboard, perhaps the garage have had a look at that, which has disturbed something.

We had an issue after our last service - Turned out to be some kind of bump stop had fallen past the filter - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2484
Wonder if it's the same problem??

Still got the tapping noise but now I have a change of scenario when I hear the noise.

I can only describe the noise as two metal press studs on a jacket tapping together.

During cold weather or the first journey in a morning, everything is nice and quiet.

However after being left out in sunshine for a few hours the tapping noise starts. This happens over rough roads ie most roads! The frequency gets greater as the miles go by.

It seems to be from behind the dash on the passenger side and is driving me crazy.

Any ideas?
