For those that have had a car provided by Mazda First, did you sign a hire agreement for it? If so, then, as I understand it, you could be liable for the hire costs if the other insurer refuses to pay later on.
No I didn't sign a hire agreement, just a form to say I received it in one piece.
OK, ta.

I've been looking at the customer reviews for Mazda Official Insurance (although of course it's one of a group of insurers just using the Mazda name) and one person last month says " ...I was not impressed that I was told I'd get a 'loan car' which then actually turned out to be a car hire in my name. A very different thing altogether."

All the paperwork for the LD Disco I had is headed 'Hire Agreement'!! None with my signature on (although the copies they have may well have been signed by me??? Can't remember)
I also have a document stating that my CX-3 is a 4x4, that I understand the 'hire' vehicle is on credit and *not* a courtesy car and reasons I require a 4x4! - The only question I was originally asked over the phone was "will a smaller car do"? to which I replied "No, I need the boot space as we're off on holiday soon" (remembering that the CX-3's rear seats will *have* to be lowered whilst travelling to our destination)
Then this LD Disco Auto Sport turns up!

All these documents were handed to me as the Disco was delivered two days before our holiday and I was just asked to 'sign here.... sign here and sign here....'

"The way credit hire works is that the company will provide you with a replacement and have you sign for it.
Once the hire is over, they’ll send an invoice of the daily charges – starting at £35 per day – over to the insurer of whoever was at fault for the accident.
The issue is there’s no guarantee that the at-fault insurer will accept liability and/or the charges, in which case all the bills are in your name."

If asked "Have you had any claims or incidents, regardless of fault, within the last three years?’, even if you haven’t made a claim, it’s still classed as an incident and should be declared to any future insurers.

👍 ... Yes this is what I did and it goes down as a notification as Mazda first' delt with the third party and repairs...... My insurance was not affected.

Thanks JT and Steve, I have since looked at my paperwork and seen a letter from my insurers with a 'claims incident No' as I *had* notified them as advised by Mazda First.

Thanks JT, very reassuring (not! )

I've looked back at the emails I get from Mazda First and this is the only part of it all that mentions 'you may incur costs'
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

***In some instances where your insurer may not let us report the claim to them on your behalf, we will ask you to report to them advising that you are using our Mazda Accident AfterCare service with a Mazda Approved Repairer. If you cancel the recovery of your vehicle, you will be liable for any cancellation charges incurred. Or if your insurer rejects your claim, you will be liable for any recovery costs incurred.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Which I read as that if *my* insurer rejects the claim I would be liable for recovery (of my damaged vehicle from site of accident) costs incurred.

Everywhere else on ALL their emails it states -

"... All at no cost to you"

No mention anywhere of any other charges or 'hire' vehicles, it's *always* stated as a free courtesy car -

Also when I phoned Mazda First in the first instance (08000150367) the claims handler who answered and handled my claim (Joe Bland) has a 'Kindertons' email address which is the company that my car hire agreement was with, so Mazda First = Kindertons = Mazda First as far as I'm concerned.

I would be *somewhat* annoyed if I get a bill at any time.......

I'm sure it'll be fine Andy.

Quote from kindertons.co.uk website - "Kindertons Accident Management is a leading provider of automotive accident management and mobility solutions to the motor insurance industry in the UK.", so yes, it looks like Mazda First is Kindertons.

To put your mind at ease, I would write a quick letter/email to the company, quoting the hire agreement, and ask for written confirmation that the charges have been settled in full by the other party's insurance company.

Yes JT, I'm sure it will be, I did actually email Joe, the hire manager and the main Kindertons email address asking for confirmation that I wouldn't be liable for *any costs* (including my excess) or lose my no-claim discount (although I realise it's down to my insurance Co re NC discount)...... didn't get a reply from any of them!
