Will regular effect performance?
CX-3 SEL Nav Auto petrol Soul Red Reg Jan 2017
I use regular, tried premium once and couldn't notice any difference apart from how much more it cost me at the pump!
I tend to put a tank of premium (97RON) unleaded in my car every month or so and have done for years. I find that I get better mpg figures and my current car (Volvo V30 T3) is noticeably quieter. I'll do the same with my new CX-3 when it arrives and see if I get the same results.

The reason I ask is that regular here means a bit different to the US where it is only an indication of octane rating. It probably won't make a lot of difference to a petrolbut I tend to use branded fuel which has more detergent than supermarket fuel. Diesels are a different matter and good fuel is essential.

If you read about how the Skyactive-G engine works, it runs at a higher compression ratio than a regular petrol engine (closer to that of a diesel). In a normal petrol engine to achieve such high compression ratios, one would need to use a higher octane rated fuel (the expensive stuff), but Mazda have carefully timed the valves to intake a small amount of exhaust gas during the intake stroke (and I imagine careful timing of the direct fuel injection during the cycle), which retards the ignition of the fuel, in effect increasing the octane rating!
It's very clever stuff, only possible with powerful engine management computers.
-edit- So higher octane fuel is very unlikely to make any difference to performance, and on an engine under 5 years old, any detergent fuel additives are unlikely to offer the engine much.

Sorry folks, if we (foolishly) fill up with Morrisons petrol, our CX-3 definitely struggles with torque (especially when ascending an incline in 5th or 6th without us changing down a notch) and the acceleration, the engine grunt & the smoothness is, well, noticeably poor (basically).
Conversely, if we invest in Shell V Power or BP Ultimate, our CX-3 goes like a rocket!
