Hi,

I'm looking at getting some roof bars for my CX-3 Sports Nav and wondering what the options are. I wouldn't look to be having them on permanently, only for holidays and transporting the occasional larger load. Also, I'm trying to avoid using bars that clamp to the roof above the doors.

I know that to have the Mazda bars it's necessary to have the new roof moldings installed to access the screw mount points; is there a cover to hide the mount points when the roof bars are removed, or would they be exposed at all times? None of the photos I have come across make this point clear.

If there is an insert or cover, is it possible to install another brand of roof bar (Thule or Whispbar) with the new molding, or do these only work with the existing molding and drilling?

Conversely, are there any roof rails available for the CX-3 in the UK - they seem to be available in the US.

Many thanks

Hello RichR
Just Purchased my Local Mazda Dealer RoofBars, asked for best deal got £149., including 2 replacement trim trims(as Back up).
Not fitted it yet, but I am also wondering if you can fit it by just drilling a hole thru the original trim to put the bolts thru it and then plug the hole when removed. This saves having to swop trim over etc.
I will let you know.

Got to say that would be an easier and preferable option if it was available.

Maybe there's a small market for someone with a 3D printer

GARRYT installed Whispbars through the original gutter trims and they came with rubber plugs, if that's any help.

Thanks for the replies. I take it then that the replacement trims don't have covers for the mounting points. Seems a strange way of doing things when so many vehicles have covers which can be removed and replaced as the need arises to install bars.

Just fitted my Mazda bars. I moved the trim to mark the centres of the bracket holes then drilled 10mm holes. I fitted the trim and screwed the Roof rack threaded bolts in, fitted spacers and mounted the roof rack.
When I removed the bars and screws etc I popped in 10mm Rubber grommets in place.

Not sure why these holes and grommets could not have been done by Mazda!

Were the replacement trims you bought, part numbers D1YE-50-9H0A and D1YE-50-9L0A ? Those are the trims that are complementary parts to the roof rails and as such I presume are pre-drilled :?:

jtonline you are quite right! I should have looked at the new trim I purchased with the Roof Bars. They do have little slide out portions for the Treaded bolts to pass through.
Ha Ho, I can keep these if I ever sell the car, which will be a long time away.

I just added genuine OEM Mazda roof racks and they look great. I got a great deal online and I'm really happy with my purchase. Here are my new roof racks https://www.mazdapartsprime.com/oem/maz ... 8ls01.html
