My car is now over 3 years old and out of warranty. Does anyone have any experience or advice on extended warranty. Mazda are quoting £390 a year for their Complete Cover with no pricing for their other presumably lower priced options available.

My MX5 will be 3 years old next month and I have been looking at an extended warranty. They did send me a leaflet and options for the three covers together with price options. The leaflet is very confusing as to what is included in each option so I have asked for clarification. As yet I have had no response. For mine the complete cover was £339, but I may have a lower mileage. I have received alternative prices and they are all very similar to the Mazda warranty. Even the basic Mazda cover was only £50 less than the complete cove.

On my last car a Mazda 2 i got the complete cover for £349 which included the breakdown cover which on it's own would cost nearly £100.

So for around £249 it didn't seem bad.

Did look outside the Mazda warranty at other companies but not a lot cheaper and too many exclusions.

Don't keep cars after 4 years so don't know if a 2 or 3 year warranty extension would work out cheaper.

I will be looking into this myself shortly. Other companies let you download a copy of their policy before you sign-up. I shall be asking Mazda for a copy of theirs so I can do a comparison of what's included and excluded. Also, other companies ask the repairing garage to submit a claim form to them and await a reply before carrying out any work, so I'll check with my garage that they'd be happy to do that before I sign on a dotted line.

Thanks for the link, Gus, that wasn't one I was aware of.

Just had a quick look at that link. Somewhat confusing the chart shows that even the most comprehensive cover - the Complete option - doesn't cover the air conditioning / climate control system yet the link to further details https://www.mazdaextended.co.uk/CompleteDetails doesn't include those systems in the list of exceptions. I think I'd want a much better clarification from Mazda on exactly what is - or better still what isn't - covered before taking up their extended cover.

That's a fair chunk of change, annually, for vehicles that are pretty bulletproof.

My local dealership gives the extended warranty for free, so long as you always service with them (not that this helps you, I realise).

I guess it's worth thinking about how long you'll keep the vehicle, what it owes you in years to come and if, in say another three years you had a 1200 pound expense... would it be offset anyway by not having paid 400 a year for the past three years, etc?

It's gambling, essentially, but I can just about guarantee Mazda will have the odds set in its favour.

when i only had second hand cars.... i used the AA

https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/b ... pair-cover

with the basic breakdown cover all purchased through qiuidco... used it several times and had no problem.starter motor, fuel pump, speed sensors, coolant leak they paid up...
yes the cover is only £500 but it takes the sting out of a big bill.

just ran it through and home start and onward travel-£152 minus quidco £65 =£87 for the year...
