May be the hand book does not tell you.

HAND BRAKE.

Some now cars have push button hand braking system.
Our CX3 has the standard pull up leaver type.

If you are ever unsure if you have set the hand brake properly you might try this technique.
Press the food brake firmly this will give added pressure and grip to the pads which, by the way swell when hot and srink when cold.

While doing so, set the hand brake leaver firmly you will know in time when the brake is firmly set ,then release.
Some drivers will drag the hand brake leaver up there by damaging the teath and stopper paul ,this is not a good idea .

Be mindfull of wet or dirty brake pads and disks cleaning just take a little foot brake pressure before stoping and parking.
Note ::: Parking on a hill or incline ,take extra special care and attension, always turm the front wheels 90 % over towards the curb.

A roll away can kill.

Hello Tino.
Greetings and thank yourfor you comments.

My Wife and I took the Police advanced driving course, the insructor was driving at the time with 3 of us in the vehicle.

We came to a junction/ intersection stop , being a down hill incline.
The instructor applied the foot break and also applied the hand brake , in effect he brake locked the car, the car was not going anwhere, I felt safe at the sanme time, I was very impessed, to this day I perform the same proceedure on all inclines.
The Mazda CX3 also has a hill stop it is just a tempory feature , however is still use the hand brake to avoid roll back.
When the light changes my foot come off the foot brake to the accelerator pedal then i accelerate while draging the hand brake whick in due course is released.

I put my handbrake on every time I stop, whether on a hill or a flat surface. That's the way I was taught.

Greetings :Thank your interest and for your comment.

Recently here in Bermuda acording to the newspaper report a pannel delivery van was parked facing fortward on a incline, the empty vehicle let go,and went down to the botom of the hill, across the intersecting East / West road, jumped the side walk , went through through a 4 ft high wall and plunged 50 ft + down on top of the gas station roof.

The police investigation determined that the hand brake cable had broken.

MEANS OF ESCAPE.
While driving you have three options to avoid the posiblity of collision, any more will become confusing so chose your options carefully.
How can you know what you or your vehicle can do unless you practice these manouvers, here is where your 6 th sense " self preservation" kicks in.

#3 .BRAKE . Always brake your vehicle while driving in a straight line to avoid side ways tire side slip.
Know the braking limitations of your vehicle.
How does your vehicle react to extra heavy beaking .
Are your tires worn out ?
Can you react fast enough?
What are you limitations?

#2. ACCELERATE. I mean floor it , then be prepared to brake.
You could agrivate and magnify the situation.
This can be a dangeriouse trick which may end in disaster.

#1. MEANS OF ESCAPE.
***** This is a constant driver exercise.
While driving in any weather or trafic conditions.
Always know your best options, here you will make a drastic decision.
Avoid a colision get out of the way.
Always maintain your own personal space on the road.
Always Look for and know your " MEANS OF ESCAPE".
