After much hassle with a dealer in Darlington not installing it even after 2.5 days I got it installed today at Turnbulls in York. 2 hours all done and the Mrs is well pleased. Siri integration is great and all map options are much nicer than stock Mazda one even though you don’t get instructions in the HUD with them. The better maps though more than make up for the HUD-less instructions. Apple Music is really good and the whole system works brilliantly. I think she’ll use Waze a lot for navigation.

It’s good to just push the speaker button and ask Siri to play anything even if it’s not in your Music. “Hey Siri, play some Ed Sheeran”. Messages is very good, too.

Just my 2p in case anyone is thinking of getting it installed.

Glad you got sorted.

I would be mainly using Android if I got it and although I prefer Waze for navigation I am not sure I would want to give up directions on the HUD.

It may be because I'm tall, but I find the Active Display (HUD) on mine nothing but a novelty. Because it's not in my line of sight, I have to look down anyway so I may as well look at the speedometer or MZD Connect screen. Plus the sat nav voice instructions make the navigation symbols redundant IMO.

I've not gone for the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay accessory so far. I'm not convinced it would offer me enough benefits for the cost and mild inconvenience of connecting & disconnecting the 'phone. I like gadgets though, so I may change my mind, and totally understand why people have had it fitted. :)

I'm tall too and what you say doesn't compute unless you're over 2 metres! The HUD is a great piece of kit. Just a slight glance down and the information percolates into my consciousness.

I'm using Android Auto from Mazdatweaks.com. Unlike the official version, I get turn routing in the HUD. Seems to work in the green display currently and not the newer versions.
Mazda paint is crap! Mazda should be ashamed of themselves!.

Fair enough. But I find it's not significantly less of a 'slight glance down' than it is to look at the digital speedo figures. The time spent with my focus off the road ahead is the same. A true head up display overlays info at your line of sight so you don't have to glance away from what you're supposed to be looking at.

The CX-5 projects on to the windscreen it is a lot easier to read than the CX-3, but I find Waze unusable with Android Auto as it is all blue and when you are trying to select a function it outlines in blue.... almost impossible to see, when driving forget it, it is impossible to see as it would take your attention of the road.

That's interesting Gus. I wonder if Waze will tweak the colours in a future version, as you can't be the only user to have found that. Or make it so you can download different colour schemes.

I was one of the first adapters in Finland. I got Apple CarPlay in my 2017 CX-3 installed in August. It's fantastic, and a huge upgrade from the standard Mazda Infotainment system. I'm so glad I spent 358€ to have it installed.!
