The table suggests the X engine uses a particulate filter. In view of the problems a PF causes low annual mileage diesels that is a bummer.

I was told ... limited stock allocation per dealership...Mazda think demand will out strip supply

Mazda are limiting stock on a lot of their models to try and meet EU legislation on fleet emission restrictions. If manufacturers don't meet them they will have large fines imposed on them. Without electric cars in their fleet I don't think they can succeed.

Yes they are trying to rush this through for next year. It will be pure electric with an option for a range extender to follow. The range extender will be a small rotary engine. They expect to introduce the Hybrid they are developing with Toyota at the end of 2021.
