Spacesaver kit question.

Post by Jakeyboy » Tue Mar 05, 2019 7:57 pm

Hi I have the CX3 SE model without bose. I have seen a used spacesaver wheel kit but it says it's for vehicles with Bose. Does anyone know if it will fit the SE without bose ? Or will I have issues? What's the difference between the 2 kits as I cannot see there been much difference ? Anything major ? Many thanks.

Hi Jakeyboy, nice to see you back in the forums.

The foam inserts around the tyre are different on the Bose equipped versions and the clamp bolt that holds the wheel in place is different.
This PDF document may help - https://accessorybase.mazda.ph-wt.com/D ... Manual.pdf

Also, remember the space saver tyre needs to be 125/90D16 98M in order to use the luggage board at the lower level safely so that Jake & Ellie have the extra headroom - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=658&p=2453#p2457

My CX3 has 18" wheels, what size is the space saver wheel 18"?
I'm being told by the dealer that it is 16" not 18"

your dealer is correct - the 16" space saver has the same rolling radius as your 18" OEM fitment.
I doubt very much that Mazda would list and sell a part that was not suitable for your car.....

Thank you jtonline. So the wheel and tyre would be ok as the tyre is t125 90 16 98m the bolt I could most likely sort as there is an eBay seller who will make a retaining bolt to the length you require. Looks like the foam may be the issue then. It does look deeper in your link. That's a shame as it was a good price compared to the new ones and not too far away for collection. I did buy a full sized spare but just keep it in the garage. I used to only drive around locally so that was fine but I am now driving longer journeys and would feel better with a spare wheel that is fixed in the car. As you say I do still need the headroom for my 2 dogs so need to use the spacesaver with the correct tyre so I can leave my boot floor on the lower level. I will keep looking. Maybe I could buy a spacesaver rim and get the t125 90 d16 98m tyre put on it. Can anyone advise on the rim size if I were to do this ?? I know nothing about wheels and tyres. Just checking out all my options. I ideally don't want to pay over £300 for the full kit from Mazda and the eBay sellers selling generic spacesavers seem to have many differing tyre sizes but not the one I need. Thank you for your replies.

You could probably just not use the foam inserts if you wrap the towing eyes and wheel nut wrench in something to stop them rattling about. A genuine clamp bolt could be sourced from the parts dept, of a Mazda dealer for about £5.

I have just collected from my main dealer the complete space saver set, which they ordered as separate items apparently using my specific car details to ensure the correct parts.I have Bose. The total cost was £245.

Hi AJ
The cheapest price I can get from a dealer is £305 for Bose, who was the dealer you got £245 from?

Can you tell me why the mat has to be changed on a Bose and what's the difference between the two mats ?
