One of the primary reasons I bought the 1.5d was because of the advertised excellent fuel consumption. I have to say that it's giving me less mpg than my BMW 530d AND my wife's Mercedes e220cdi convertible. But with a lot less performance. :(
I've tried this on a run at a steady 70mph, and gentle driving on country road. Absolute best I've had is 46mpg. My 530d on the same road at the same 70mph (to my same place of work) gives me 51mph. Disappointed to say the least. I expect a 1.5 diesel to do better than this.

Haha, bang on. At least I know it’s not my driving style. I’ll overlook the mpg when the snow comes!
