I think it may depend on the type of plastic, or if they mix other chemicals in the aerosol:
https://www.machinedesign.com/motors-dr ... ore-part-2

"...Typically, lubricants based on silicone, PFAE (perflourinated), most synthetic hydrocarbons (SHC or PAO), or mineral oils work well with plastics..."
"...Silicone-based lubricants also show excellent compatibility. They are suitable for low load applications and a wide temperature range (typically -90 to 425 F)."

Well, tried the PTF spray and no difference. I have just got off the phone with my local dealer and they told me "we have quite a few people with the same problem", got mine booked in tomorrow for an inspection which will only take 5-10 minutes then they will order the part for replacement.

Yep, folding mechanism is a common issue on Mazda door mirrors, particularly if you use pressure washers.
BTW, If your garage orders a new assembly, they might want to order a new mirror glass too, as it's tricky to remove the existing glass without breaking it.

Most certainly! But the average Joe who's looking for a lubricant will just think "well... It's for plastic" and there lies the problem, who knows 'what' plastic is used???

Agreed. Not sure if the PTFE spray is effective if the plastic parts are damp on application.

Wonder if the Water Displacement properties of WD PTFE are the same as their popular lubricant?

Apparently, WD-40 do a 'Specialist High Performance PTFE Lubricant' which claims to be "Ideal for components or mechanisms exposed to water or the elements" and they do another product called 'Specialist Anti-Friction Dry PTFE Lubricant'.

Thanks for the advice, I will ask them about this.

Had for a while. I haven't seen any noticeable difference between it & standard WD-40.

Sorry i am new to this forum. could not find how to post a question.
How does one switch on auto-folding mirrors to fold/unfold when you lock/unlock the doors.
