Headlamp replacement (2015 CX-3 in UK)

Hi all,

I'm looking to source replacement front headlamps for my 2015 CX-3 (CX-3 5dr Hat 2.0 120ps Se-L 2w)

We've got the xenon lamps version (the LEDs that move as you turn around corners).

Given they both need replacing (glass smashed), if I can't source like-for-like replacements reasonably cost effectively, I'm wondering if it is possible to down-spec them ?

Thank you in advance!

Xenon lamps are not LEDs. I didn't think LEDs were fitted to the SE model.

Sorry, you're right.

Not xenon, mine are LEDs.

My model was the "Sport Nav"

Wondering if I have to replace these like for like ?

If you down spec to non-led you will apparently get awful headlights.

New from Mazda, the LED headlights are about £835 ea. with AFS (swivel with steering angle) and £545 ea. without AFS.
I'm only guessing but I think it'll be tricky to downgrade to halogen.
It would be a real shame to lose the LEDs, can you not claim on your insurance?

Ive not heard of this type of swivelling headlight. My CX3 is a October 2018 SatNav+ model and Ive not noticed the headlights moving as I turn. Were these only fitted to certain models? Next time I'm out in the dark, I'll pay special attention in case Ive not noticed the light moving.

AFS might not be on your model. If it is, the feature can be turned on or off in the Vehicle section of Settings on the infotaiment screen.

In my opinions Mazda have really confused the issue with the "adaptive" phrase. The copy of a Sep 2018 CX-3 brochure I have says for the Sport Nav+ model, "Adaptive Front Lighting System" is standard yet "Adaptive LED headlights" is an option as part of the Safety Pack :?

I can't see how the lights could see round a corner with halogen types unless they use some kind of physical connection between the lights and steering so they swivel like on various old Citroen cars e.g. the DS and SM models.

This Mazda webpage https://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/tec ... afety/afs/ explains how the system works and states :-

"In combination with discharge headlights, the system illuminates a greater distance and more brightly compared to halogen headlights, improving the driver's field of vision and visibility around curves and at intersections during night driving."

To add to the confusion in my mind is that I don't think the Mazda CX-3 has ever been fitted with HID (High Intensity Discharge) type headlights but either Halogen or LED types!

In summary, unless you have the Safety Pack on your Sport Nav+ then I don't think you will have the AFS feature.

AFS (swiveling headlights) has been used on xenon lights for the past 20 years.
Some, like Mazda, also use it on LED headlights.
ALH is a much more advanced LED headlight with several leds for the high beam (also called matrix er segment LED headlights). With AFS there is still only one LED for highbeam but the low beam can then swivel to give better lighting when cornering.
