Concensus on Tyres ?

Our Bridgestone Turanzas are down to 3mm now, apart from one of the rears which is 4mm, So thinking to replace them before MOT in May...

Ive seen the Michelin Cross Climates mentioned on here before, and that it gives a softer ride than the Turanzas ?

I dont actually drive the car and my other half is happy enough with the current tyres, so not sure what to do, havnt yet checked prices to any extent.

Opinions appreciated, or other alternatives ?

nb: The Bridgestones are the original tyres and have done around 24K so far.

I have Michelin CrossClimate SUV tyres on mine for some time now. Excellent tyres IMO.
Kwik Fit have an offer on at the moment for 10% off when you buy 2-3 Michelin CrossClimate tyres or 15% off when you buy 4, plus a free speaker.

There may be better prices elsewhere, I haven't checked lately.

Now living in a rural area and never using motorways-I am constantly experiencing minor damage to tyre walls from branches, mini potholes and other A and B road debris. Am thinking of replacing all four tyres this spring and wondering what to get. Are there tyres with stronger walls than others I should look at?
Thanks

The Michelin CrossClimate SUV has a reinforced sidewall on all dimensions except 215/55R18 99V, 215/65 R16 102V and 235/55 R17 103V.

It may also be worth looking at taking out the accidental tyre damage insurance that some tyre fitting companies offer.

We also live in a similar rural area as Dogfuzz describes ( although we do head up and down the motorway every so often as well ) so the sidewall strength could be an issue for me as well.

The original Bridgestone Turanzas seem to have stood up well to that so far, so i guess thats my dilemma with sticking with a "hard" tyre like that or risking something softer...

<<< edit>>> especially as we have no spare tyre on this car !

My commute takes me down a few miles of single-track lanes with the odd pot hole and grass growing down the middle.
I put a full size spare wheel with tyre in the boot. It came in handy once when one of the original Toyo's had a bulge and would have failed the MOT, but the testing station was able to swap to my spare and I got a replacement tyre at my convenience.

Fortnight ago replaced both fronts with Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 (Autoexpress tyre test winner 2020), satisfied with their performance so far, no noticeable excessive road noise and they have rim protection built in. £260 fitted but they have gone up to £270 now at National Tyres. I also have a full sized spare in the boot which I've had to use on several occasions.

I have priced up Michelin Cross Climates @ ATS ( online )

They are 142.99 each fully fitted, but they are running a promotion giving £58 discount if buy 4 Michelins, brings the price for 4 to £ 513.96, or 128.49 each.

Does that sound reasonable ? Can also claim a free Karcher washer RRP £84, which i would probably sell on.

£128.49 each for Michelin cross climates is a very good price

Cheers for feedback Graeme - think i will go ahead and order....

For anyone who has a Kwikfit local, i priced them up at £5 cheaper per tyre than ATS - but i have an ATS very local , know most of the staff there, and have used them a lot over the years..
