I haven't needed to put any oil in a car for years. I only do about 5000 miles a year in each of them so I very rarely check nowadays. Even when I was out on the road doing up to 40,000 miles a year it was a very rare occasion that I needed to top up the oil. Even my old 1991 MX5 with 63,000 miles on the clock never used a drop between services. What is it with new engines that causes them to drink oil?

Mine was halfway between min and max after 6000 miles and first service not due until end of November so I wanted to top it up. My previous Mazda 2 and the wife's MX5 didn't use oil
I believe Audi's drink oil for fun.

When I keyed in my reg and details on the Halfords site( 2018-Sport Nv 1998-petrol)-one of the options was Halfords 5W30 fully synthetic....is this ok to use please or is the CastrolMagnetec better because it is more expensive? --thanks.
I just like to have a little of the stuff to hand if a mini top up is needed prior to a longer journey etc!....
