My first two fill ups averaged 44.5mpg, helped by long motorway / dual carriageway drives to Somerset and elsewhere. It has dropped down to around 38mpg over the last 4 fill ups, involving a mix of dual carriageway and urban driving. Overall average to date is now almost 41mpg. I expect to get back to a mid 40's fill-up whenever I take another long trip.

Myrtle the Mazda (as my daughters refer to my car) is in for the third service this morning. Just a shade under 45 000km on the clock, average consumption is up a bit to 6.62l/100km (42.7 mpg) after a few thousand km with the luggage box on, and the only niggles are a bit of a noise from the left front suspension and slightly twitchy steering. In fact the engine seems to be nicely loose now, and I think I've adjusted back to driving a petrol engine eventually, and I'm enjoying driving it. Actually, that might account for some of the increase in consumption too :)

I've only had mine 3 weeks tomorrow Sat 18th. I've covered 1150miles and according to my computer display I'm doing 56.4 mpg which converts to 12.4 miles per litre. This has been mainly motorway at 70mph on cruise and with some around town of late, I tend not to accelerate hard or brake late, so Im really impressed so far for a 2.0 120 petrol.

you are doing a lot better than I am on consumption, I have averaged just under 43mpg over the last 18k miles - that is brim to brim testing. I am guessing you are petrol manual?

Yes Gus; 2.0, Manual, 120 petrol. Just done another 100miles around lake Coniston Water and Windermere in the Lake District Cumbria UK which is really mountainous and dodgy twisting roads, so slow going (-30mph) and lots of gear changing everywhere and I'm still showing 55.7mpg. :D

That's amazing, I have the same car and can only average 40 mpg. It hasn't done 1000 miles yet so maybe it will loosen up a bit.

I see you have a MX5 Sport nav too. Mines a 2013 2.0 Sport Tech top of the range in pearl white, I'm getting 46mpg when I run from Emsworth to the Lakes circa 800m on cruise at 70mph. My British Airways neighbour (female) also has the a similar MX5 but moans she struggles to get 30mpg from it!! I'm beginning to think maybe it's my lethargic non urgent relaxed driving style 😏. Oh and my CX-3 mpg has dropped to 53.3, hoping to up it on my motorway return to the south coast from the lakes soon.

Yes this is my fourth MX5, I did have a 2008 Mk3 2l OP before this one. I only got 40mpg on a long run, mostly it was nearer 35mpg. The Mk4 is slightly better on fuel consumption, but far better on performance. I don't really drive fast, but you could say I like a 'spirited' drive. I am really impressed with your fuel consumption, are you sure you aren't using the middle pedal as the accelerator?

Yes it looks like a good site for me to sell on some of my MX5 stuff I don't need, like alloy fuel flap, boot lid umbrella storage pack etc. I agree the Mk4 has a better power train but still like the late Mk3 PRHT model.
