Just to annoy tyrfelin (and help others) , here's a little update on my CX-3:
54,573 km at 6,28 L/100 km / 44,98 MPG (imp).
I'm quite happy with that
And it's doesn't use any oil to speak of.

I did a little check of computer figures full tank to full tank at same filling station same pump fill till click off it did 41 mpg the computer average was 45.3 so i believe Mazda reading slightly out which backs up what my two mazda 6s were showing.
After 5000 miles in the first year the best mpg has been 44.8 and the worst 42.3 in everything from local running about to long motorway journeys.
I am more than satisfied with these figures from a 2.0 litre petrol automatic, especially as I refuse to use the i-stop function. I cut my teeth on 1950's cars, and when the engine suddenly stopped I knew I had a problem. 50 years later I still find it disconcerting when I occasionally forget to disable the i-stop. Hopefully if I press the button often enough the silly thing will eventually fail.
All that unnecessary additional wear to the starter circuit is an economy measure too far. Rant over!

CX-3 SE 2.0L 2WD Auto. 43.5mpg.
Each to their own, but while conventional idling stop systems rely on a starter motor to restart the engine, Mazda's i-stop restarts the engine through combustion.

Very clever stuff. It uses the alternator to stop the cycle precisely and then combustion to start it? Still has a bit of starter motor assistance from what I understand.
