My sis. has had her VW stolen off the drive (not sophisticated relay theft, they just broke in to the house & stole the key).
She's bought today a new CX-30 SE-L Lux to replace it, but can't register it with her private plate, that has to stay on a retention certificate because the previous car was stolen & not recovered. So the dealer has to register it with a number & then it has to get changed in 6 months time. The DVLA have some weird rules!

She did well to put it on retention...if she hadn't she would have lost the right to it and it would have passed to the insurance company.

The rules are better than they were.
