I a great fan of my CX-3 and love the way it looks

However after my holiday in Florida and 2 weeks driving a Jeep Cherokee I was shocked on my return when I drove back from the Airport of how noisy and rough my beloved CX-3 felt.

So I’ve just had a test drive of a Skoda Karoq SE-L1.0 litre DSG, how smooth and quiet it felt and quite lively considering it’s only a 3 cylinder

Really got me thinking, especially as we couldn’t get 2 medium suitcases in the Mazda boot (yes I knew that when I bought it, it hasn’t shrunk)

Probably won’t be changing just yet, but I’m tempted

The sport nav has 18" wheels and lowish side profile, where as the Jeep would have a deeper profile tyre being a big 4x4 so giving a more comfortable ride.

Interesting as I have just tested a Karoq 1.5 TSI DSG and I am well taken with the ride. My reason is the same as yours, I knew the boot was small but it is just a bit too small for my purpose. Although the Karoq is only 4 inches longer than the CX-3, the bonnet is a lot shorter and the rear end a lot longer, hence the bigger boot. The problem is I doubt I would get a good enough price trading in a 6 month old car, I would have to sell privately first. It's a shame as I really love it and it is such a pleasure to drive - I just think I may have made a mistake. I still think the CX-3 looks better than the Karoq, it's just a case of practicality , oh and my local dealer has just closed down !
Car sold - but still following Mazda.

It makes me laugh when people complain about a hard ride and tyre noise.

Firstly did you not take an extended test drive before you bought and in my experience the ride is not hard and the tyre noise on Toyo tyres is barely noticeable.

If you want a hard ride/tyre noise my previous BMW company cars on run flat tyres will make a CX3 feel like it is floating on air.

Tyre noise and a firm ride are not matters which can or should be laughed off. They are serious problems with the CX-3.

My test drive included a motorway, an A road and an urban dual carriageway. Having read all the reviews I was prepared for a firm ride. On the road surfaces of the test drive the car rode reasonably quietly, about the same as the Honda HR-V which I also considered buying. I soon discovered that in every day use on coarse surfaces the level of noise and vibration transmitted into the interior by the Bridgestone Turanza tyres was totally unacceptable, even on my car's 16 inch wheels. The fact that Mazda have fitted extra sound insulation and altered the suspension on the face lifted CX-3 is proof positive that the ride problems were very real, but like some contributors to this forum they would never admit it.

Before spending thousands of pounds changing the car, I am prepared to spend a few hundred to try and improve it. The first step will be to fit Michelin Cross Climate tyres, which are universally praised for their quiet compliant ride. The second step will be to have the car professionally soundproofed with a specialist product such as Dynamat.

If the car is sufficiently improved I will keep it and the expenditure will have been worth it, but I resent having to do what Mazda should have done in the first place. There is nothing more stressful to drive than a noisy car.

I hope you have more luck than I have. My local dealer went bust due to fraud - allegedly - and a 2 site dealership covering a population of at least250,000 disappeared overnight. That was back in June 2016, 1 month after I bought my CX-3, and so far Mazda have never replaced them. What was then the nearest one after that moved a further 4 miles away after a dealership restructuring. Always seems the way with low volume Japanese cars sold in the UK.

I had an Audi prior to the CX-3, on sports suspension, so I know what it’s like to have square wheels

Very hard to replicate all conditions on a test drive and as I came direct from my Audi it didn’t seem that bad, no car is perfect and we are allowed to have a change of priorities

Follow that advice and all you will do is mask the problem while risking permanent hearing damage.
