Had the Carplay/AA installed yesterday. Was all done within 2 hours. So far all seems to work well and seamless integration with the iPhone. All in for £299 which I didn’t think too unreasonable.

I'm getting the wife's CX-3 done next Friday, same morning I'm picking up a brand new Lexus NX Premier to replace my diesel Kia Sportage.

Drew, can you confirm that it's only the Mazda nav that displays in the HUD.

Cheers

Is the display unit changed when this is done? I had a courtesy mazda 3 when my cx3 was serviced, and the display unit was far superior, very clear images, and a shiney screen, not satin and a bit dull.

The screen isn’t replaced as part of the retrofit - I definitely wouldn’t want the screen any shinier as reflections are a pain as it is.

Just had second service carried out and asked about Android Auto.
Price in Ireland is €295 including fitting and vat. I think that is a great price.
Interestingly, the dealer printed off a copy of Mazda's circular to the dealers and it mentions that labour is 1.4 hours (including 0.3 hrs for software update where necessary) though they say it can be installed in 30/40 minutes when the technician becomes proficient.

Do we know what the retrofit process is? Is is both hardware and software?

According to a guy posting on a Mazda 3 forum, it involves these steps in this sequence :-

Firmware update, a 2 stage process comprising installing a fail safe version and then a reinstall of newer version
New USB Data Cable set of two
New AUX Unit
