N.B: The site linked to is not an official Mazda website.
The update process is straightforward, but do not attempt to update the Operating System yourself unless you can follow instructions to the letter. If you get it wrong , you run the risk of damaging your infotainment system beyond economic repair and Mazda will not help you.

It depends on what version of the Operating System you're upgrading from. There is a changelog document in the folder linked to above that lists the changes.

An upgrade from 59.xx to 70.xx is a prerequisite for the installation of the official Apple CarPlay/Android Auto hardware kit. It will also pause an audio source when speakers are muted. It will prevent the uploading of unofficial operating system hacks via the USB ports.

But it's mainly bug fixes. However, it's worth noting than an OS upgrade also may introduce bugs that you didn't have before, and if so, you have to wait for a subsequent release from Mazda for a fix. It is not possible to downgrade the OS to a previous version.

Users of AIO Tweaks will know that upgrading to this version of CMU software removes the ability to add AIO tweaks UNLESS steps - that for many users are complex - are taken whilst installing the CMU upgrade.

Additionally for Android Auto users via AIO ; upgrading to CMU software version 70.xx.xxx prevents AIO Android Auto from running. Then the only recourse would be to pay the Mazda Tax for an unnecessary USB Hub.
Mazda paint is crap! Mazda should be ashamed of themselves!.
