Hi guys,
I'm due to have my cx3 serviced soon. I was not sure whether using the geniune Mazda 5-30w C3 type oil (as per the manual) is best or a C1 type oil (lower saps) e.g Motul 8100 Eco-Clean+ ACEA C1 5W-30.
Thought this due to the woes of a blocked dpf I hear to commonly with Mazda diesels
Any advice please to maintain best dpf health...
Thanks in advance
Engine oil types and dpf
I'd stick with what Mazda specifies
Blocked DPFs are usually due to low mileage - if this applies to you, maybe a dieses isn't the right engine.
Other than that give the car a sound thrashing now and again...

I am of the opinion that if the manufacturer of the car thought there were advantages in using a different specification of oil, they would change their published recommendation.
Be aware that if you do decide to deviate from Mazda's recommendations, then it gives them a reason not to rectify any future problems that may arise with related items under warranty, or 'out of warranty' goodwill.
If you change the engine oil & filter yourself, or somewhere other than a main dealer, remember that for SKYACTIV-D engines you must get the ECU oil data value reset once the oil is changed, (this is separate from the settings on the MZD-Connect screen) details of the procedure are in the Owner's Manual.

Okay, I'll go with the Mazda oil. Any particular preference of the 2 they recommend.....
1. Mazda ultra 5w-30
2. Mazda supra 0w-30 (about £5 dearer)
Both are Acea C3 oils.
And yes I read up about the ecu reset, this involves steps using the dashboard illumination knob and start button (ignition) sequence?
Many thanks

N.B: Ultra DPF. and Supra DPF oil names. The addition of DPF in the name is important if you're ordering online or from a dealer as it's not the same spec as for a petrol engine.
Mine has always had the 5W-30, good to -30°C. The lower viscosity 0W-30 is suitable for even lower winter temperatures.
You can get the Mazda branded oil from the parts dept. of a dealer, or get another brand so long as it meets ACEA C3 specification. If you're getting the job done outside the dealer network you should get the type of oil used itemised on the invoice.
