While driving the car on a German motorway it showed twice a short (5 seconds?) warning in the head-up display during a long descent on the A8 between Munich and Karlsruhe. I drove with radar cruise control in sixth gear about 100km/h and with the air conditioning switched on.

The warning was orange coloured and had the shape of a bowling pin. I cannot find a picture or the explanation of the symbol anywhere. Not in the owners manual and not on the internet.

There are no warnings in the "monitor vehicle status" of the car. Does anybody have any idea what this warning means?

I have solved the problem after more than three years!

Have a look at the bottom of the webpage:
https://mazdamanuals.com.au/wsm-secure/ ... 00100.html
The last item is called “Shift up/shift down request (MTX)“

Be sure to read the blue "Note" at the very bottom of the page:
"When driving on a steep downhill, a shift down request may be indicated to decrease the load on the brakes required to maintain a constant vehicle speed."

The picture of the gear lever does indeed look like a bowling pin.
I also went down a steep descend with the Mazda Radar Cruise Control active.

The so-called Drackensteiner Hang in Germany on the A8 between Ulm and Stuttgart. The highway is split in two there, with the west to east highway going up the south side of the mountain and the east to west going down the north side of the mountain. The latter is a very long steep 6% descent (much for a highway) with two narrow lanes, where I needed all my attention on the traffic and no time to dwell on a warning on the head-up display that I did not understand. It is always very busy there with a high risk of traffic jams. At the beginning of the descent there are big signs in three languages: "Gefahr Danger Pericolo". Have a look at the YouTube video below.

I did not realize that the cruise control was braking by also activating the brakes, instead of only on the engine. That's why I got the request from the car to select a lower gear, so that I could use the engine to slow down more and the brakes less to prevent overheating.

Perhaps it is better to switch off the cruise control and brake yourself and downshift on a long descend. Then you have a better feeling of what the car is doing.
