Hi

As above is there a way to turn off the i-Stop function permanently? I am aware that you can press and hold the i-Stop button which will turn this function off while you are driving but whenever you re-start the car it appears to re-set itself and I have to do the whole procedure again.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry but in a word NO.

I wish you could but then many other's will come along and say what's the problem with i-stop.

The way i have found around it is if you leave the fan even on the lowest setting my i-stop has never activated and shut the engine off.

Thanks for the reply Mark, I read on a recent post from a guy who said that the constant stop & starting was not good for the battery. I did a quick search on ECP and a new battery costs £197.99

I am old enough to remember "Clunk click, every trip". Turning i-Stop off has become as natural as putting on my seat belt.

With an automatic gearbox you don't need to turn off i-stop, it's easy to learn to stop the car without using sufficient brake pedal pressure to activate it. It's designed that way for short stops. But 'each to their own'.

I am quietly confident that Mazda will have factored that into their design and specification as there is a check on the battery condition as part of the soft ware that activates is istop.

The Mazda battery is a heavy duty battery specifically designed with i-stop in mind. Which is why it costs a little more than some other batteries. Also Mazda's i-stop will cut the engine on the intake stroke ready for combustion. So when the engine restarts minimum assistance is required by the starter motor which reduces power on the battery.

As with most things software... where there is a will there is a way.
https://www.forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3379 gives details for changing data bits in the car's software. Not, though, for the feint of heart. There is a thread on https://www.mazda3revolution.com/thread ... lt.169393/ worth reading if you are serious and have the ability to do it yourself.

What this does mean is that Mazda garages probably have software to switch off iStop, should you really want to. The real problem is they probably do not have the staff with the understanding to be able to do it for you. I would talk to a tuning specialist or chipper and see if they could help.
Mazda paint is crap! Mazda should be ashamed of themselves!.
