Hello all

My MOT failed last week for a worn drive belt and high emissions the car was in for the belt yesterday and asked them to look for the DPF and he said there is a weld mark there so he strongly suspects it has been removed and this is why it failed the emissions test.

I have it booked in for Monday with a garage that will confirm 100% with a camera but think given it smokes like a chimney (black smoke) and about a month ago I put it in because of this and the garage found a metal blank covering the EGR valve, it is near certain there is no CPF so I will need to get one!

Mazda have quoted me £1012 plus VAT, ouch!

I would like some help and advice on a couple of things:

1. Where can I source a DPF at a reasonable (please do not laugh) price?
2. Does anyone know what I might need to do ECU wise to get it reinstalled/recognised after the physical installation as it they suspect it was deleted from that after removal as well?

Thanks

Paul

I’d have thought you want a specialist in diesel engines at the very least but the premium paid with a main dealer may give some peace of mind.. unfortunately it’s a case of when and not if the particulate filter and/or egr has issues; hence the initial delete.
This practice should be highly illegal and previous registered keepers at the time of removal billed for reinstatement

The ECU will have been remapped to take in the fact the DPF has been gutted and EGR blanked in order for no warning lights to appear and for no DPF regenerations to take place.

To make the car road legal you will need to have these changes to the ECU reversed and a new or second hand DPF fitted. eBay or a specialist Mazda breakers might be a good source. Then you need a diesel/DPF specialist to fit the DPF and reprogram the ECU. If you buy used I would get the DPF professionally cleaned before it is fitted.

Did you buy the car privately or from a dealer? Either way you have been stitched up but with the latter you might have legal recourse.

Thanks Percy & SeeXthree,

I think the above is going to have to be the course I take.

Do you have any idea whether the procedure to remap itself will be costly at all or what is involved?

Also, do you happen to know any Mazda specialist breakers please.

It was from a 'garage' (so-called) via Auto-Trader but they are now no longer trading so get the feeling that would be a waste of time!

After getting the DPF fitted you could always take it to be "chipped" - approx £250
