The article referenced mentioned an extra piece of hardware; so yes, probably a fee. BUT after that no subscription will be required for traffic updates. You will have them free (Android) not sure about Apple and CarPlay (but seeing as Apple try to monetize everything I guess Apple users will pay.)
Maps will be updated frequently rather that once a year and you will not need to spend any time yourself loading stuff onto an SD card.
The music database (Gracenote) can be retired; so no more tracks unrecognised.
There can be more integration when texts and call are received.
You can let friends track your progress for meeting up.
And plenty of such yet to be imagined - such as GCHQ being able to know what you are talking to your passenger about!
I can understand some people can't see any purpose for this but then again there was an IBM executive in the 1950s who thought the market for mainframe computers would amount to no more than 5 machines.

I read the article as coming with new models, no mention of retrofit?
CX-3, Sport Nav, Auto, Petrol, Soul Red Metallic, Half Stone Leather, Sep 2015 to Sep 2018.
CX-5, Sport Nav+, Auto, Petrol, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Sep 2018.

Not in those exact words, but the sense of retrofitting is mentioned. Other sources have been publishing similar and suggesting a small hardware addition. Perhaps a change to the heads up system pixel display to show more from the Android Auto source?
It all fits: infotainment version 60 has been suggested for a while to be the version bringing AA.

You don't need the Gracenote database to recognise tracks, the track info is stored in it's metadata ID-tag.Boyle de Cabbage wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2017 12:55 pm
