Yes, filling up costs another couple of quid but when you factor in clogged EGRs, DPFs, injectors etc, it’s cheap in the scheme of things. Of course you will get people doubting it and I get that if they’ve never knowingly had problems but if you go to an engine or fuel injection specialist and ask them you will soon be reassured. You will get a few more mpg from high grade fuel but not enough to pay back the extra you paid. It’s what it’s doing to inside your engine which is the real benefit.

Hi guys, well I am sorry to say its happened again, its done 1000 miles since it was in the garage for the last problem and we have only used shell fuel and never let the tank empty below a quarter full before refuelling. The wife was driving to work yesterday when she again lost power, no engine lights like last time so I am pretty sure its a blocked fuel filter again and the car still has only 3000 miles on the clock, it got towed away yesterday so we are hoping for a loan car today.
Its been another very cold period like last time when they diagnosed fuel waxing , I wasnt convinced that we had bought contaminated fuel like the service engineer was suggesting and now with changing our filling routine I am even less convinced ....should the tank be getting purged now ?

Just heard back from the dealership and it seems that the problem has been identified as the fuel housing, the service manager said they are now seeing a few of these faults and having spoken to Mazda they have been told to replace this part to resolve the issues.
I have been speaking to mazda customer services, the fuel housing is out of stock so the dealership has one on order and has had our car in for 9 days and counting.
Funny enough I talked to a neighbour with the same car this morning and had an interesting chat, they too have had the problem of losing power and got fobbed of at the dealership with cheap fuel but little did the dealership know that he works in that industry and he asked for a sample....well they changed their tune and took another look then ordered the said fuel housing due about april.
My neighbour talked a lot of sense he said the fuel is getting too cold and reaching its milking point thats when the fuel starts to break down and waxing occurs, he said the fuel housing will either insulate or deflect cold air away from the diesel preventing this happening, he also said this should be done as a recall , I totally agree with that if this is a permanent fix.

Hmm, well there are a couple of considerations with your neighbours prognosis. All fuel companies add an anti freeze which raises the CFFPP (cold fuel filter plugging point). It’s done automatically during the cold months. Furthermore, all CX-3 diesels have a fuel heater element built into the filter head. This caters for very low mileage vehicles that may still contain summer fuel during a cold snap or very cold climate. It could be that in extreme weather, snow and ice gets packed around part of the system.

My CX3 1.5 Diesel lost power suddenly on the motorway. The Mazda dealer told me the fuel filter and fuel filter housing had a build up of wax. They replaced both the fuel filter and housing under warranty.
I wax surprised as all my driving is done on the motorway and I use only the premium diesel!
