If this doesn't make you think ( and totally pointless)

Whilst running a particularly long database query and having nothing else to do while this was happening, I got to thinking.

Having reached the magical age of retirement I wondered how my time has been spent. So I set about working out the breakdown of my life by estimating the amount of hours worked over the years, pretty easy as I have had stable employment all my working life. Plus the hours spent at school and uni and also hours asleep. Then converted the total hours of each category into years as if all were done without a break.

This is what I came up with from the total hours I have been alive:

17.10 years at work
3.81 years at school/uni
21.66 years asleep

Which leave 22.43 years which has been my own time. That’s just 34.5% of the time I have been alive which I can call my own.

If that doesn’t keep you awake nothing will.
