Changed my 2017 cx3

Post by Gordongilchrist » Thu Apr 11, 2019 9:09 pm

The new 2019 model I just got in machine grey is a major improvement on my previous 2017 cx3 sport. I thought I was just getting a colour change and some new gadgets.

The engine on paper is only 1hp up but must be remapped as is is so much more perky at low revs. I read somewhere that engine friction has been reduced by 30% (find that hard to believe tho)? The engine tone is notably different, a bit louder or gruff possibly. Auto gearbox also seems better but can't explain difference. Be interested to see what mpg is like.

The handling and refinement is also a big improvement. I wonder how much is down to the G vectoring? But it is much less harsh over bumps and seem less to get upset less mid bend by bumps.

The infotainment looks better to maybe it's placebo effect. The parking sensor graphics are a big improvement.

The shiny chrome external trim and gun metal alloys are classy IMO.

The only slight gripe I have is the part of seat that you sit on is now all cloth and the red internal trim has been dropped 😢. Also they didn't fit the lock nuts to alloys 😡. Said they didn't fit or they were incorrect or something along those lines and will have to get replacements if I really want them. I said I know alloys don't get stolen much now but don't want to shell out say £1000 for replacements if someone takes a shine to them.

Overall very pleased considering hadn't even seen a 2019 model before ordering it

😁😎

Hi Gordon, I also upgraded from a 2017 to a 2019 model. Can't say that I noticed any difference in the engine, probably because I went from manual to auto. The 2019 model has different suspension as well as the G vectoring, which as you say, make a tremendous improvement in the refinement. I actually prefer the new seat material, but I guess that's personal preference.
I just wish the Mazda auto box also had an economy mode and not just the sport mode. I was getting 5 mpg less in the auto on short runs (around 10 miles) until I started to change up using the paddles. That saved me another 3 mpg. I'm sure it wouldn't be costly to add that feature as other manufacturers do.
Overall I'm also very happy with the upgrade.

I'm pretty sure I could have improved my mpg in my last auto but I was just too lazy TBH. The auto changed at such low revs normally I didn't see need to interfere unless I was giving it some Wellington. The engine is definitely improved tho. Even sounding notably different

My mother has just bought a 2019 Sport Nav plus and although the upgrades are fine the interior is as dull as dishwater.
No red inserts or stitching or red airvents etc.
Much prefer mine IMHO
